SUMMARY:Free Rabies Clinic
DESCRIPTION:\n\nTown Clerk\, Michelle Booth\, announces the Town of Mendo
n\, in partnership with Monroe County and Dr. Gluckman with the Mendon Ani
mal Hospital\, will hold a free rabies immunization clinic\, for Town of M
 endon dog owners\, on Saturday\, October 15\, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m
. The clinic will take place at the Mendon Highway Department\, 101 Semmel
Rd\, Honeoye Falls\, NY 14472. Town Mendon dog owners will be able to ren
ew or apply for a dog license\, as required by New York State Law.\n\nBoth
dogs and cats can be immunized at the clinic but must be at least three
months old.\n\nDogs must be leashed\, and cats must be in a sturdy pet c
arrier upon arrival. A copy of a prior rabies vaccination record is requir
 ed to receive a 3-year rabies vaccination. Without records\, a one-year in
itial vaccination will be provided. All shots are provided at no charge.\n
\nRabies is a viral infection that is fatal once symptoms develop.  Altho
ugh a bite most often transmits the disease\, it can also be spread if sal
iva from a rabid animal comes in contact with the mouth\, nose\, eyes\, or
an open wound on the body. Health officials strongly recommend pet vaccin
ation as it provides a barrier to prevent the transmission of rabies from
a pet that has come in contact with a rabid animal to a person that subseq
uently touches the exposed pet.\n\nThe Office of Town Clerk Michelle Boot
h will also be present at the Rabies Immunization Clinic to help Mendon d
 og-owners obtain a dog license.\n\nAll dog-owners in the Town Mendon are r
equired by NYS law to obtain a dog license from the Town Clerk’s Office\
, for every dog over four months of age.  By licensing your dog with the
Town\, we are able to help identify and protect your dog if it becomes los
 t. Licensing helps shelters detect missing pets and helps our Animal Contr
ol Officer reunite families with their pet when a dog is found. Licensing
also ensures that a dog has an up-to-date rabies vaccine.\n\nThe Town of M
endon issues dog licenses for residents in the Town of Mendon and the Vil
lage of Honeoye Falls\, in accordance with the Town Code. Once a dog is l
icensed\, the Town Clerk’s Office will mail renewal notices each year.\n
 \nDog License Fees:\n\n Un-neutered or un-spayed dog: $15\n Spayed/neute
red dog: $6\n Payment is accepted in the form of cash or check. (Checks
payable to the Town of Mendon)\n
